RESOLUTIONS

A firm decision to do or not to do something…..

We all make them. Every year, usually starting sometime in December, we start thinking about our New Year’s Resolutions. Resolutions to lose weight, to not swear, to exercise more, to find a new job, to be more kind, to not gossip, to read the bible more. The list goes on and on. We make our list of one or more things and begin to carry them out on January 1. Problem is, by mid January, we have already failed at most of them if not all.

Why do we do this?

Because we want to change, we want to better ourselves. I believe we all want that for ourselves. Wanting to be a better person is a good thing, but more than just a decision you make at New Years.

Changing requires discipline and self control. Neither one of these qualities come easy. Discipline requires us to learn and practice changed habits and behaviors over and over again even when we don’t want to or feel like it. Never submit to your feelings. Trust me you will fail. Your feelings will only tell you it’s too hard. Well guess what! God wired us for hard. Self control will help us while we are learning discipline. It is how we act and respond while we are changing.

Change is not easy. We can not do it alone.

We need God. Only God can change us. If we are one of His children and we are willing, He will work thru us and change us into who he wants us to be. All we need to do is ask Him and trust Him.

I have prayed often over the years for God to change me and He has. I see so many areas in my life where I have been changed and then there are areas where I haven’t seen much change at all, it is going very slowly. That is where the self control comes in. If I get discouraged, then I lose my self control and I only make things worse. I need to let go and let God. He will change me in His timing.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”

Resolutions are great, but it’s better to pray about the changes you want to see in your life. Ask God to work thru you, to change you into the amazing person He created you to be.

My prayer for each one of you is that this new year brings you happiness and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. God loves you and He wants His best for you.
